More about Sofia

My name is Sofia Balich ‘25, and I am a junior from Orange County, New York majoring in Science, Technology, & Society. I created VitaScope with Kalina due to our passion for the public health field. My dream is to work in the public health field in conjunction with teaching as a professor. When I have free time, you can find me either building Legos or drinking almost anything caffeinated.

Kalina Rashkov

Co-Founder & Co-President

More about Kalina

Hi everyone! My name is Kalina and I’m a junior year Biochemistry and STS major! I’m interested in biomedical research and public health, and one area of public health that’s very important to me is maternal and neonatal health! I’m currently studying public health and migration in Sweden, so I’m away for the semester, but when I’m on campus, I’m also involved in some global health orgs like MSF, I tutor biology and chemistry at the Q-center, and I work in Pollet lab. For fun, I love to sing with Beauty and the Beats, go rock-climbing with my friends, and take my rollerblades out to learn (kinda) tricks!

Outside of classes and Vitascope, I am part of the GAMES research lab where we study social cognition and interpersonal functioning through the board game CODENAMES! My research interests span psychopathology, with a focus on depression and anxiety, and specific learning disorders. Outside of academics and lab, you can find me writing poetry, reading the newest fantasy/horror novel, hiking, or playing dnd!

Art & Design

Abigail Schoenecker

Creative Director

More about Abigail

My name is Abigail Schoenecker ‘26 (she/her) and I am an STS major on the Pre-Med track with a Hispanic Studies minor at Vassar College from Nashville, TN. I am beyond excited to continue that journey through VitaScope and learn from my fellow lovely executive board members along the way. I look forward to learning more about public health and using it as a force for positive change in vulnerable communities like queer and rural populations, as well as showing people that art can exist in the scientific community! While not creating for Vitascope you can find me playing Ultimate, crafting with friends, studying to movie soundtracks, or trying not to spill things in Organic Chemistry lab.

Evan Banning

Design & Layout Director

More about Evan

I’m Evan Banning, a junior from Tolland CT, majoring in Biology with a Climate Change correlate sequence (‘25). I am thrilled to take on the role of Vitascope’s Director of Design & Production and am excited to see how both my creativity and the collaborative efforts of our team can enhance the appeal and accessibility of our public health journal! Some random facts about my life outside of VitaScope… I have a silly little hamster named Honey, my windowsills are overflowing with plants, I bring my film camera to every function, and I have a large analog music collection – yet despite the wide array of music I collect, you can usually bet that a Taylor Swift vinyl is spinning on my record player.
